It’s your massage… speak up
Ever had a massage and left feeling like it really wasn’t what you wanted? I think we’ve all been there before and it’s not fun (helloooo bruising or an unresolved niggle).
As the client, it’s easy to think you’re in the hands of the therapist and you need to accept the treatment they provide. But the reality is that it is your body being treated, it is your choice what massage you are given, and your comfort is crucial.
Each therapist may have their own style, and they will have professional recommendations based on your needs; however, voicing your goal in therapy and your expectations and preferences is vital.
🎵So if you don’t like the music or feel like it’s interrupting with your ability to switch off - speak up.
💆♀️If you want the massage pressure to be firmer or lighter - speak up.
🥶If you’re feeling cold, hot or uncomfortable - speak up.
🛏If you need a pillow under your head, knees or ankles - speak up.
🚫If there’s a part of your body you don’t want massaged - speak up.
❤️If there’s an area you want to focus on or include because you love it and it makes you feel good - speak ups
🤫If you need silence to fully zone out and relax, or you’d prefer a bit of a chat - speak up.
🧘♂️If you want to know more about your treatment or prevention strategies you can use - speak up.
You are the client.
It is your body.
It is your choice.
Speak up.
